Over the past little while, EA and Visceral have been running a little competition with fans of Dead Space to see who could create the most awesome weapon using the website’s weapon creator. The contest has since ended, and a man by the name of Caleb Mendoza was declared the winner. His face will be in the game in some way, and as you can see by the trailer, you too will be able to build the HUN-E1 Badger in-game. How difficult it will be to find the parts to build it is unclear, but if you happen to have a large quantity of every building piece, you should have no problem creating this weapon.
The nice aspect of this trailer, aside from highlighting the weapon that Mr. Mendoza created, is that we’re now given a much clearer picture of what the weapon crafting will be like. Late last month we had an article relaying some information about the weapon crafting, and now we’re getting to see it in action in front of us. It looks very streamlined and user-friendly. You can see a screen of how many of each part you have and you can use various “ingredients” in various parts of the gun for different effects. As you can see in the video, even using the melee function on this gun can result in Necromorphs being set aflame.
We’re also able to see that this game is still very Dead Space-y and hopefully it will restore some faith in people who are doubting whether this will still be horror survival or feel like the same franchise due to the inclusion of co-op. Of course, there is no way to be certain of what the game will be like until the title launches on February 5th in North America, and February 8th in Europe. Until then, we’ll keep you posted on Dead Space news as it becomes available.
