Yes, I know. Angry Birds mixed with Star Wars. It’s not a crossover of two franchises you’d expect to see. Whilst not the most outlandish of Star Wars crossovers I’ve ever seen (oh yes Transformers/Star Wars, I’m looking straight at you), it’s still pretty out there. The makers of the hugely successful app franchise, Rovio released an image of a Bird in a hooded cloak wielding a lightsaber that pretty much confirms we’ll be seeing an Angry Birds/Star Wars crossover.
Released on Rovio’s Tumblr page, the post notifies fans that a big announcement will be made in Times Square, NY on Monday the 8th of October at 10AM and that fans should head to the local Toy’s R Us as it appears that toymaker Hasbro will be furthering this Angry Birds/Star Wars crossover. An Amazon listing reveals a Angry Birds/Star Wars themed Jenga set featuring X-Wings with catapults attached to the top firing out the Birds into the Death Star shapes as a pig with Han Solo and Chewbacca as Birds.
Further details found on Fast Company reveals that the new game, with the official title of Angry Birds Star Wars takes our much beloved original trilogy characters Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Chewbacca and places them as the Birds. Now bear in mind that Han Solo and Chewbacca are only shown on the Jenga box and have yet to be properly revealed. Luke Skywalker features as the Red Bird in the new crossover. In addition to the Jenga game and the actual video game, a reported 50 further licenses have been created to make various products ranging from kids clothing to toys.
