Sony have announced that over 5 million units of the PlayStation 3 have been sold to date.
The new super slim PS3 with it’s 500GB memory is thought to have helped Sony reach those numbers MCV has reported. Going on sale on the 28th of September, the sales jumped up an extra 138% in sales for that week. Sony’s 12GB version of the super slim will be released in the UK tomorrow, the 12th of October.
When asked about this milestone in the sales of the PlayStation 3, Sony’s Fergal Gara had this to say; ““It is fantastic that we passed the 5m mark. But most importantly to me is not the milestone itself, but the fact that there is momentum behind it. And with the new chassis, and the way the market is panning out this year, PlayStation definitely has the momentum.”
Gara himself was not only excited about the surprise jump in the PS3 sales numbers but also of how Sony should be progressing in the coming months. From what he said, he was very confident of the content coming our way for Christmas despite having a lot of work ahead of them. “These guys know that they have a lot to do to make sure the Christmas plans are sharp and focused, and they have come to them relatively late” said Gara, “So they are working at a hell of a pace. I can already feel a positive buzz that wasn’t there only a few weeks ago.”
By what Gara says here, could be expecting that proposed Vita/PS3 bundle we heard about last week? Let us know in the comments below.
