THQ Australia Is Now Closed
THQ’s Melbourne publishing office has been closed down, leaving 18 former employee’s without a job. THQ is trying to adapt it’s international strategy by including third party distributors rather than do it directly.

In a statement sent to IGN.com, a spokesperson for THQ had this to say:
“THQ confirms it has made changes to its publishing organization in Australia. In line with THQ’s corporate strategy to focus on wholly-owned IP and move away from affiliate label programs, we have evaluated how best to take our more-focused product lineup to market in the territory. After a thorough analysis, a decision has been made to move from a direct sales model to a distributor model, which means that our Melbourne publishing office will be closing. Approximately 18 employees were impacted by this action.”
It’s not been a good year for THQ. Earlier this year, it had to close it’s offices in Arizona due to financial troubles and lay offs. They’ve also had to change their game Warhammer 40,000 Dark Millenium from an MMO to single player game.
Our best wishes go out to those affected.
