New Xbox 360 Dashboard Update Removing Facebook and Twitter Apps
The latest update for the Xbox 360 has been released for an estimated 3 million users almost as a beta test to ensure everything goes smoothly. Supposing everything goes according to plan, it has been suggested that everyone else will receive the update on October 23rd. One change that people who got the update early have noticed is that the Facebook and Twitter apps are no longer available in the App Marketplace.
We are able to speculate that this is because Microsoft would rather Xbox users utilize Internet Explorer on their 360′s to access these pages rather than simply using those apps which take them directly to the services. If you haven’t downloaded the Twitter or Facebook apps on your Xbox 360 and would like to be able to use them after this dashboard update, you should do so before the 23rd. The apps will still work after the update, much like some of the games which have been removed from the Games Marketplace are still playable, but you will not be able to download either of these apps for the first time. Of course, if you have no problem using IE on your Xbox 360 and accessing those services in a somewhat lengthier fashion, then this shouldn’t affect you. If you’re like me and you don’t even have a Twitter account, then it really shouldn’t bother you.

Eric is pretty indifferent about the lack of those apps from the Marketplace, but he still hates that people are unable to buy Joust on the XBLA Marketplace anymore. He’s an editor for Analog Addiction where you can find all the latest gaming news, previews, reviews, and everything else that rhymes with those words. ‘Like’ Analog Addiction on Facebook to receive all of the updates as they’re posted.
