Well here’s a thought: what if you could play a Diablo game set in space? It seems that the idea was at one point on Blizzard’s mind, but it was never really more than a few incentives.
David Craddock, the author of the “Stay Awhile and Listen” book about Blizzard Entertainment said to Shacknews:
“Have you ever finished a round of Diablo and said, ‘You know, I bet that addictive slot-machine formula would be a blast in a science fiction setting?'” Craddock asked. “Blizzard North thought so, too. After [Diablo II], the company split into separate teams: a Diablo team, and a ‘We love Diablo but it’s time to try something new’ team. They started and scrapped more than half a dozen ideas before a few team members suggested making a Diablo clone, but set on a space opera stage.”
The project was named “Starblo” and one of the more interesting and different from the other Diablo games idea, was that instead of teleporting from one place to another, “Starblo” would have allowed players to customize spaceships and fly them across the galaxy, killing and looting creatures they found along the way. Several builds were made for the game but nothing came out of it. But the more interesting idea is… did they really gave up on it or is it just on hold like… StarCraft: Ghost maybe?
What’s your take on this one guys? Would you have liked to play this kind of space loot affair or you’re satisfied with the medieval fantasy theme for now? Let us know in the comment section bellow!
Vlad Pintea isn’t really into loot driven games. He’s played a bit of Diablo III and Borderlands but gave up pretty fast. Just not his cup of tea. Anyway, you can contact him via e-mail at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org, Skype, My IGN or on Steam, all at the same name: vlad94pintea. Have a good day and remember! Stay calm and keep on gaming! Vlad Pintea out!
