Bethesda have come out to say that they see Dishonored as franchise material.
Despite being a brand new IP, Dishonored sold quite well in the United States during it’s first month of release with 460,000 copies sold. However, it doesn’t look like Dishonored is going to remain a fresh new IP for much longer. It looks like Bethesda plan to give Dishonored another shot with the comment “We clearly have a new franchise”.
In an interview with Destructoid, Pete Hines, the Vice President of Bethesda PR said that Dishonored enjoyed a big kick up the backside in sales due to Black Friday and it continues to do well across the world. “I can tell you that Dishonored is far exceeding our sales expectations, which is especially cool considering it’s new IP facing a host of well-established franchises this quarter,” said Hines.
As for digital sales, Dishonored continues to do well on that front. “Dishonored was listed as the *1 selling title over the holiday weekend [on Steam]”. Hines also added that they’re “very pleased and appreciate all the fans that have supported Dishonored and Arkane.”
So is Dishonored’s new existence as a franchise a good thing or is it another victim of the slow demise of the new IP? Tell us what you think. For more on Dishonored, check out the latest DLC and check out our review.
