‘New Super Mario Bros. 2′ Receives Free DLC for Gold Coin Milestone

Recently, “New Super Mario Bros. 2″ for the Nintendo 3DS reached a milestone in how many coins were collected from all around the world.

A little over three months after the game’s release in the U.S., players have gathered 300 billion gold coins worldwide.

As a result, Nintendo has released the Gold Classics Pack to download directly from “New Super Mario Bros. 2″ free of charge, but download it for free while you still can. Beginning Feb. 1, 2013, the pack will cost you $2.50 if you live in the United States.

The levels within the Gold Classics Pack contain three new Coin Rush levels inspired by past games in the Mario franchise such as “Super Mario Bros.” and “Super Mario Bros. 3.”

Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales and Marketing, expressed his gratitude by saying “Nintendo fans have once again demonstrated their passion for the ‘Super Mario Bros.’ franchise. The Gold Classics Pack is just one small way for us to thank players for their dedication. We’re all eager to see how high that coin tally can get.”

Are you excited for this pack? Will it motivate you to pick and replay “New Super Mario Bros. 2″ again? Do the 300 billion coins inspire you to go pick up the game? Speak into our ears in the comments section below.

About Robbie Key

Hello world! The name is Robbie Key. I am 20 years old from Houston, TX, and one day I dream to work for IGN in their San Francisco offices as an Editor. Right now I am currently in college at Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) working on my degree in Journalism so I can one day reach my dream. I currently work for The Pine Log, SFA's newspaper as a Staff Writer and the lone gaming journalist where I write reviews and articles about all things gaming. I also write reviews and editorials for Analog Addiction, an online gaming news website from Australia. Right now I'm living my dream by writing about all things gaming. It has been amazing and I hope I can do this for a very long time.
