PlanetSide 2 Joins MLG
Yes, you heard it right. A Massive Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter (MMOFPS) has joined the Major League Gaming circuit. The collaboration was announced at today’s PlanetSide 2 Ultimate Empire Showdown, in Los Angeles.
Along with the MLG partnership, the PlanetSide 2 team have revealed a “Roadmap”, which will be a community based service. Roadmap will allow community members to help and participate in the future development of PlanetSide 2. On the Roadmap website, Roadmap is described as “A new way to interact with the development team providing feedback on game direction, updates and content. Be a part of the development process!”
First Person Shooters make up a lot of the MLG events, but I don’t think an MMO has ever been included in the MLG line-up. It’s going to be interesting to see how MLG and Sony Online Entertainment make this partnership work.
“From the first time I played PlanetSide 2, I knew that it made sense for the MLG community,”said Sundance DiGiovanni, CEO and co-founder of Major League Gaming. ”I am excited to introduce the game to our audience and to see how it evolves along with the growing and evolving eSports landscape.”

Good article, but one thing about you saying ‘but I don’t think an MMO has ever been included in the MLG line-up’, you forgot that WoW Arena was part of the MLG PC circuit for a time, until WotLK brought imbalanced and uninteresting matches, so really not that long thinking that arenas came in BC…
Nevertheless, that is great news for Planetside 2! Just wondering how they will do the matchups tho.. lol
