Did Gearbox Makes Less Of Colonial Marines Than Originally Thought?

According to a former employee at Gearbox Software, the developer had outsourced the development of the singleplayer campaign whilst the Borderlands developer focused solely on multiplayer.

The employee revealed the situation at Gearbox on a forum page posted almost a year ago in May 2012. Whats interesting is that the employee points out that the greater majority of  development was outsourced to a developer under the name TimeGate Studios who “have a less than stellar past”. TimegGate are the developer behind Section 8: Prejudice, a shooter released on the PSN a few years back as well as working on some DLC for the F.E.A.R series.

The post from the forum reads “Hate to say it, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up too high for Colonial Marines. I used to work at Gearbox, and the development of that game has been a total train wreck, going on what, 6 years now? Gearbox isn’t even making the game, except for the multiplayer.”

Outsourcing was known to have taken place throughout the six years of Colonial Marines’ development time with Nerve Software and Demiurge Studios having places on the credit list. However, the Borderlands developer had previously stated that 80% of the game was made by Gearbox. Of course, this goes against what this former employee is saying about the game. Reviews coming in are less than favourable at the moment with Eurogamer giving the game a 3/10 and Egde issuing a 5/10. The common word about the game mainly cite technical issues with the game.

Sega has so far declined to comment but word has gone out to Gearbox. Any updates on the story will reach you when it’s given.

Analog Addictions review of Aliens: Colonial Marines will be published in the coming days.

  3. I was looking forward to this title and was terribly disappointed to find out about the a five hour single campaign. Five hours of single player game play for a $50-60 title? Ridiculous in the current highly competitive FPS market and sagging economy. Add the technical glitches and a horrible AI (which I’ve seen in action on various twitch.tv streams) and its a terrible shame that a game with so much potential, fell so short on delivery.
