SimCity Sells Over 1 Million At Launch
Something good can finally be reported about SimCity. Today, EA announced that SimCity sold more than 1.1 million units in its first two weeks. This makes it the biggest SimCity launch of all time.
EA said roughly 54 percent of the sales were digital versions of the game.
“SimCity had a great weekend with sales strong across both North America and Europe, adding to overwhelming demand at launch that has us tracking well beyond expectations for the game,” said Peter Moore, Chief Operating Officer for EA. “SimCity is one of the storied brands in gaming, and Maxis delivered a game re-envisioned and engineered for the online age.”
This news comes on the same day John Riccitiello announced he was stepping down as EA’s CEO.
Thankfully, for their troubles, EA is giving every SimCity player who validates their game a free game from a list of EA titles.
Analog Addiction’s SimCity review will be up in the coming weeks as the game is massive and requires plenty of playtime.
Nathan Manning is an Editor for AnalogAddiction. He will be reviewing SimCity. You can find him on Twitter and AnalogAddiction there as well.
