Tweets from GDC Fire up the Half-Life 3 Rumour Mill

Today some interesting Tweets concerning Valve have emerged from GDC, (the Games Developers Conference), which have once again incited a great deal of speculation concerning the long-awaited Half-Life 3.

Half Life 3

Lead designer on Battlefield 3, David Goldfarb, tweeted that he witnessed some “nice things” after a meeting with Valve. Almost instantaneously, Marcus ‘Notch’ Persson of Mojang responded hopefully, “hl3 confirmed?” Goldfarb replied, “my silence must be interpreted as silence…” Notch probed further requesting, “Reply to this tweet if hl3 is confirmed.” Goldfarb teased, “I will show my answer with some interpretive dance. Look closely.”

Valve TweetsSimilarly Dave Oshry, of Interceptor Entertainment tweeted, “Just got out of a meeting with Valve that was single-handedly worth the trip out here. You guys are gonna love me for this.#SOON #GDC”.

It’s been five years since Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and nearly a decade since the original release of Half-Life 2, so understandably everyone is clamouring for any scrap of information at this point. While most of us undoubtedly hope these tweets allude to the fabled third instalment in the series, or even Half-Life 2: Episode 3 being in development, there really isn’t much to go on right now.

One thing is clear though – something is coming – but exactly what it is and when it will be announced remain a mystery.

What do you think? Do you have faith that a new Half-Life is on the horizon? Perhaps a sequel to Left 4 Dead or Portal may be in the works? On the other hand could it be an entirely new IP set for release on next-gen hardware? Let us know your opinion in the comments down below and with any luck we’ll be travelling back to City 17 in no time.
