We reported last week that the XCOM FPS had disappeared from the Internet and was being refined. It has now been revealed that the game will be called The Bureau: XCOM Declassified and will be released on August 20 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is a third-person shooter with squad-based elements. From a brief description on IGN, think usual XCOM but where the action is in real time and you are controlling the squad leader from the battlefield. It seems 2K has looked at the success of last year’s XCOM reboot and wants to try to capture some of the things that gamers liked from it- that includes permadeath.
The Bureau is set in 1962 during the Cold War. Players will play as agent William Carter, an intelligence operative recruited by The Bureau who finds himself leading a team against aliens that have invaded the United States.
According to the game’s official website, “The Bureau has been erasing the truth for decades. The time will come for the truth to be revealed.”
First announced as a first person shooter back in 2010, the game has been delayed several times, and now it would seem a change in name means 2K is emphasising the dramatical change from what we saw in 2010.
