MASKS #6 REVIEW

Masks #6

Writer: Chris Roberson
Cover Artist: Alex Ross and Dennis Calero

Masks #6 dives deeper into the mystery of the Justice Party and what their plans really are. The beginning takes us back to Black Bat and Zorro taking out that small group of stormtroopers while raising the question as to why such heavily armored men bent on total domination use clubs instead of guns. We get a better understanding when they introduce us to who’s apparently pulling the strings of the Justice Party. While not a big issue, yet again Masks shows great pacing as they remain on track and progress towards unraveling the mysteries of the Justice Party before they enact their big plot.

The interactions in this series have that tendency to be very natural. If you know each character then you know how they act and respond and it shows on every page. It is also noticeable in how they use The Shadow’s attitude to consistently derail conversations to jump straight into the action. Overall there is that feeling of teamwork between those paired together because they each continue to carry their weight and no one hero stands out among the others.

Between Alex Ross and Dennis Calero, the art remains consistent and their use of both inking and shading adds to that dark feeling that the story tries to portray. Adding to this is the specific coloring of each character that makes them pop out among everything else on the page and the detail put into them.

Score: 8.3/10
