With talk of who should be in the sequel to Avengers buzzing around, you of course have those who believe that heroes who would “look better on screen” should be added. That’s fair to want, but with the new rumors surrounding the appearance of a “brother and sister”, I think that it is only right that it be Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, two original Avengers who are also mutants. As a family and popcorn movie, they do seem like the wisest choice.
Pietro and Wanda sought refuge from the Avengers after they have fled their homeland because they were being hunted for being mutants. As they were almost caught, they were rescued by Magneto(who had no idea he’s their father) and had them join his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. They worked for Magneto for some time till they realized that they were being used and escaped his grasp which is how they made their way to the Avengers. They were inducted along with Hawkeye to take the place of the charter members, who wished to take a leave of absence. At first it was looked upon as less capable than the previous roster, but defeating Kang the Conqueror, Doctor Doom, and other threats quickly proved their worth. Although the hot-tempered Quicksilver and Hawkeye often both rebelled against his orders, Avengers leader Captain America molded them into valuable team members.
I don’t think that they will go with the ultimate story either. Mainly because from what is seen, it is only the Avengers plot itself that closely resembles the Ultimate storyline. All else like origins take more perspective from the 616 universe. And with these two characters specifically, they fit in more as their main canon selves. Not only because they are less troubled, but because they have that family bond that most will find favor in being a family movie. If they were trying to keep their casual audience along with the comic fans, this is the move that any smart man would make and what I do believe Whedon is going through with.
And stay tuned!
