In a truly unexpected turn of events, Electronic Arts has decided to give up on the controversial attempt of forcing players to buy new copies of its games – the Online Pass.
It seems like the publisher of Battlefield, Dead Space, Need for Speed, and many other franchises will be “discontinuing” the Online Pass initiative. EA’s John Reseburg told VentureBeat that “none of [their] new EA titles will include that feature,” admitting that it simply didn’t work:
“Initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online content and services, many players didn’t respond to the format. We’ve listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward.”
