FEARLESS DEFENDERS #4AU REVIEW

Fearless Defenders #4AU

Written by: Cullen Bunn
Art by: Phil Jimenez

Fearless Defenders #4AU is the tie-in of Fearless Defenders to the Age of Ultron event. This of course taking place after the Latveria-Asgard wars. Where the main storyline felt off with the war between magic and technology, this story just makes more sense. From Hippolyta and Caroline’s point of view we get a better understanding of this fight and it’s importance.

Where both of their intentions have been unclear in the Defenders book, we now see what their motivations and intentions are. Hippolyta is trying to set things right for her people, and Caroline is out for revenge against her parents for basically abandoning them. What we have here is two characters with a drive, and thrown into a world where that is really all they have. Age of Ultron has proven to push everyone into a corner and gives them something to fight for. That is what this issue gives us as the readers. And as Caroline warned Hippolyta before they entered that stadium, this world has many surprises, many which they will not be prepared for.

It was a great twist to see that behind the curtain of the city in which they stand prisoners, Hippotlyta’s father, Ares was the real enemy. Disgraced an hiding away to enact his vengeance against the Amazons for killing his daughter. Again, motivations are what really drives this event and story. The art for this book as well might have been the best out of the whole series.
