Masahiro Sakurai has revealed earlier today that the new Super Smash Bros for Wii U and the new Super Smash Bros for 3DS will not have cross-platform play. The reason is each console has their own special unique levels and because of this it is not possible to have a Wii U player vs. a 3DS player.
However, a special and new customization option will be available to players who own both version. Each version will interact with each other as gamers will be able to take the characters that they’ve customized on 3DS and transfer them to the Wii U version. Sakurai wouldn’t elaborate on what the customizations are, but said that they won’t be costumes or other tasks that the player would find repetitive. Lastly, he did not confirm if the level editor will be making its return.
