Reports are coming which tell us the lastest system update for the PlayStation 3 is locking up the consoles of its users.
Sony has pulled the update for now but some are still affected. If you have PlayStation Plus, we would advise turning off the automatic update to avoid downloading the update for now.
The problem, according to users on the official PlayStation forums is the XMB user interface failing to to appear onscreen after the flowing ribbon which signifies the console startup sequence. In an effort to fix this, gamers have tried reformatting the console but in some cases this has broken down the system altogether and has made it worse.
Sony has publicly acknowledged the problem and told IGN “We have temporarily taken 4.45 offline and are investigating the cause of the problem. We will announce when the system update is available for download as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
In the meantime, try to avoiding downloading this latest system update.
