“Lets go die trying”. If there were any four words to describe what Hopeless has made of this book, that is it. This may be like Battle Royale, but it surely is still a book of heroes. What many fans feared and hated about this book at first was just the thought of their favorite young heroes dying, yet this has turned into something in which you find yourself cheering for that hero nonetheless.
Character development over spectacle. That’s what I see from this book. 25 Days into this story and there has been a great balance of characterization and action. More so characterization and development. That is what makes this book exciting and what makes this issue engaging. Such heroes like Hazmat you would have found one-dimensional before, yet Hopeless in my opinion has turned her into the rising star. Someone who is literally the hero and represents why they cannot fall to Arcade’s game. Every issue in which something tragic happened, you feel the emotion from it and even then you know that something else will happen which will top that. Here we got someone who lost everything and managed to come back willing to put everything on the line to do what’s right.
Overall this is a book that I urge many readers out there to pick up. Never mind who will die or who you might never see again. Care for those that get that treatment and chance to prove who they really are when the opportunity presents itself. The layout of the story remains arcade-like, the art makes you feel that emotion poured into the story, and in the end it keeps you engaged which is what counts most.
