After working as a freelancer for developer Arkane Studios (generally known for creating Dishonored) Guillaume Provost decided to create his own gaming studio. Its name is Compulsion Games, and the first project to materialise is called Contrast.
Set in a noir world, the game follows a young detective Dawn, as she is able to move in 3D, or materialise herself as a 2D shadow. As shadows will play a big part in Contrast, the game will present a lot of light sources, from spotlights, to film projectors etc.

I used to be a rendering programmer when I used to write code, so I thought about a lot of physical and/or graphical novel ways of interacting with games, and that’s how the idea sparked,” says Provost in a 1UP interview. “I can’t say ‘I saw a shadow on a wall’ and had this sudden boom of an idea. I was basically sitting in a café when I got the original idea, and I built up from that.
The story follows detective Dawn, and a younger girl, Didi, who is asking our protagonist to “change the course of past events” in order to save her family. Apparently, this request is part of a bigger theme presented in Contrast.
The game will be published by Focus Home Interactive. You can expect Contrast to launch in late 2013/early 2014 on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Additionally, you can get a glimpse of the world from the teaser below.
