Just when things couldn’t get anymore insane, Ales Kot manages to surprise you on that front. What many and myself thought was just a giant that they had to eventually fight, ends up being one composed out of dead bodies. That’s not something you see every day and adds to that twisted nature of this book. What I appreciated is that even though it was somewhat expected that they would be undercover in Vegas, they didn’t actually spend too much time on that which other writers tend to take advantage of. Just straight to the point and the pacing was balanced.
It was great that the Samsara serum was finally touched upon. The biggest mystery surrounding this book has always been death, and it was not too long ago that we found out they used that serum to bring the dead back to life. Now we find out that just about everyone who has died is in jeopardy when this serum is basically unstable. That’s a twist that could have many repercussions for some characters actions to follow this revelation.
The chaotic dynamic of the team has to be what really sticks out so far. You see that they work so well together when they actually do, yet have no regard for each others well-being. Aside from this the dialogue stands out when you have those like Harley who always has something funny to say or Deadshot who always sounds like a sarcastic ass. The gritty style of the book makes the story look just as creepy as it feels. Good issue overall that is hopefully setting up for something climatic to come next.
