WHAT IF AVX #3 REVIEW

What If AvX #3

Written by: Jimmy Palmoitti

Things have taken a turn for the worst. The Phoenix is now unleashed on the world and what this will lead to have everyone in a frenzy. This issue alone has really separated this story from its predecessor and while it is somewhat predictable, you still find ways in which the story can shock you.

It’s really a change in direction when the Avengers are seen as the instigators of this issue. While Magneto and the rest really show faith in her, the Avengers continue to pressure her and question if she can control the power, especially when she has that power already. Palmoitti really does show the more aggressive side of this story when the X-Men, mainly Magneto force his influence of hate for the human race. That is something we didn’t get from the original story because he was obedient to Cyclop’s will. Overall it is just cool that now there is a definite villain of the story. Sad it has to be Magneto, but who better to make this move and take this opportunity when it presents itself than him.

I do have to say though that the art style was a bit of a step down from the previous issues. It felt as if some of the body proportions were off which can be distracting. This and there was a lack of detail which was something I liked about this book before.

Another solid issue, where even though you could possibly worry about how the story ends, you know that with the next issue being the conclusion it will be something big. No one is safe this time around and that creates a sense of urgency for everyone. It’s a great way to shake things up and I can only hope that this story pulls through in the end to become something memorable.

Score: 7.7/10
