Green Hornet #5 Review

Green Hornet #5

Written by: Mark Waid
Art by: Ronilson Freire

Different strokes, different approaches, this issue is all about things getting back on track for the Green Hornet. This is between managing his paper, getting serious with taking on the corruption in the city, and finding Kato who quit on him some time ago. It’s nice to know that no matter what direction this story goes, Waid knows to take a step back to remember what makes Green Hornet who he is.

It’s different to see how Reid is not with Kato. When you wonder what is missing in this story, it’s always for the fact that they compliment each other. Kato being that kickass sidekick and Reid just being himself. See them finally confront one another was painful knowing that it is as enemies hurt, but it’s one of those inevitable moments that had to happen. It was handled quite well and of course it served as that stepping stone for Reid to grow as a person. As we all know he has had that personality which would make you walk the other way, but he’s started to take notice of this.

The only issue I find that this book is lacking in at the moment is pacing. Things are progressing fine, but at the same time I’d like to see more of a sense of urgency from Green Hornet and Kato. Something to add some intensity when this book feels too light. Not much of an issue, but you would expect a little more excitement from a character like Green Hornet.

Overall I’m finding myself more interested in investing my time in this book knowing this is the Green Hornet I am more familiar with. It is the Green Hornet and Kato that most fans are familiar with and from here things can only get better.
