Japanese PS4 Release Date On The Way?

The Japanese release date for the PlayStation 4 could be revealed at the Tokyo Games Show.

Whilst North American and European release dates have already been set for the PS4, it’s rather odd how Japan has been left out of the equation thus far seeing how Japan is the home country of Sony and the PlayStation brand. With this in mind, Sony’s UK Managing Director Fergal Gara has dropped a hint we may see a release date announcement today.

“Maybe that’s one of the points that will get covered at Tokyo Game Show,” Gara explained to VideoGamer.

A Japanese PS4 release date “wasn’t specifically mentioned [during Sony’s Gamescom press conference], but this is a European show so I think a lot of the time was spent talking about what are the initial launch territories in Europe and how is it going against what was announced at E3. I’m sure we’ll flesh that out shortly.”

This is a rare situation for Japanese gamers who have received all past PlayStation products both home consoles and handhelds first before anyone else with European gamers usually being the last to get in on the action. For example, the PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006 for Japan and North America and in March 2007 for Europe.

Will Japan get the PS4 this year though? Give us your predictions in the comments below!

  1. I thought they announced a Sony Computer Entertainment Japan event at Gamescom? I was under the assumption it would be announced there.
