Nintendo eShop Update: 10/10/13 – 10/17/13

This week on Nintendo’s electronic shop, the latest entry to the Pokemon series releases in addition to classic NES sports titles.

As the game bringing in the sixth generation of Pokemon to the franchise, Pokemon X (X)and Pokemon Y  (Y) mark the first time a portable entry in the series will be in full 3D.

X and Y take place in the new region Kalos, and with unfamiliar territory comes fresh features to the series. Players will not only choose among starter Pokemon Chespin (grass-type), Fennekin (fire-type) and Froakie (water-type), but later on in the game, the original starters Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle can be acquired as secondary starters.

There are also new Mega Evolutions, which give certain Pokemon an extra boost in power for a temporary time. Also new is the Fairy-type of Pokemon, who are effective against Fight, Dragon and Dark types. Other new additions include being able to customize your trainer beyond gender, being able to play and interact with your Pokemon on the touchscreen, Super Training, battles with multiple Pokemon called Horde Encounters and a more refined search system to make interactions with players around the world a smoother experience.

Pokemon X and Pokemon Y will be available worldwide on Oct. 12 for $39.99 on the 3DS’ eShop.

Don’t forget the Nintendo 2DS will also launch alongside and Y on Oct. 12 for $129.99 (check out images of the 2DS here). There are also special edition and Y designed 3DS XL’s, which Analog Addiction’s Jamie Briggs unboxed in a video. Check out the unboxing video below.

In other eShop updates, classic NES sports games simply titled Tennis and Golf are available to download on the Wii U Virtual Console for $4.99 each.
