Ubisoft has just announced that two of its most highly anticipated next generation titles – Watch Dogs and The Crew – have been delayed to 2014. Details are pretty scarce when it comes to The Crew, but in Watch Dogs’ case, the publisher stated the following:
Our ambition from the start with Watch_Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until Spring 2014.
“Why now,” you may ask? Well, as the publisher was getting closer to Watch Dogs’ release date, it realised that a delay would be necessary, in order to not compromise any possible detail.
[...] from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release [...] it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.
Watch Dogs was originally announced for a November 19th release in the US, and a November 22 release across Europe, on the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360. The original release date for the Xbox One was November 22nd – worldwide – and on the PS4 on November 29th, in Europe.
Besides that, Ubisoft’s other new IP – The Crew – was supposed to come out during the fiscal year of 2013-14. Now, it has been scheduled for a 2014-15 fiscal year, meaning that it may not see a release until April 2014 – at the earliest.
