New Super Mario Bros 2 Review

Thought you had enough New Super Mario Bros, well think again as New Super Mario Bros makes its debut on the 3DS (its fourth different system!). New Super Mario Bros, is the 2006 series that started with the DS, bringing back Mario to his full 2D platforming adventures, rather than his newer open-world 3D adventures. The twist in this new New Super Mario Bros game is the race to collecting 1 MILLION coins. That’s right, you thought you always collected a lot of coins in your Mario endeavors, well it’s time to prove it with this new entry into the series.

Super Mario 3D Land Review

Mario takes a break from his New Super Mario Bros games and jumps back into the 3D world; and this time he’s back in a familiar title to original Gameboy owners. That’s right Mario makes his triumphant appearance on the 3DS with Super Mario 3D Land. Super Mario 3D Land is a combination of both 2D Mario gameplay with his modern home-console 3D world gameplay, or as game designer Shigeru Miyamoto says “a 3D Mario that plays as a 2D Mario game” (quote here). Playing Super Mario 3D Land is a fantastic experience especially for the elder Mario players who fondly remember his old 2D adventures. Super Mario 3D Land brings back many classic features from older Mario Bros games and integrates them into a way that makes them seem fresh and new so that all players can enjoy it.

Paper Mario Sticker Star Review

The fourth entry to the Paper Mario series and the first for handhelds, Paper Mario makes another return in his newest adventure Paper Mario Sticker Star. Paper Mario games normally play as standard RPG’s with a twist, using your paper-overworld for over-the-top, wacky and fun gameplay. Sticker Star doesn’t take a step from any of its predecessors and roughly creates its own game, which unfortunately isn’t good news. Many fans of the Paper Mario series were not happy the direction Nintendo took with Super Paper Mario (Wii) as it was more of a Super Mario World game with RPG-elements; so Nintendo brought Paper Mario back to it’s turn-by-turn battle system, although keeping the idea of “level-worlds”.

Platform: 3DS/ Genre: RPG

Developer: Intelligent Systems/ Publisher: Nintendo

Paper Mario Sticker Star story is a simple one, in which Mario, Princess Peach, and the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom are celebrating a Sticker Star festival in which a Sticker Comet lands in the Mushroom Kingdom once every year. The Sticker Comet has the ability to grant any wish and unfortunately (and shocker), Bowser crashes the party and touches the sticker, thus granting his wish and exploding the Sticker Star into six pieces. Upon realization that the town is destroyed and Bowser is wrecking havoc to the land, you meet a Sticker Fairy named Kertsi, who forces you to help accompany her to restore the Comet. Now, doing your Mario-civic duty you must rescue Princess Peach, save the Mushroom Kingdom, and restore the Sticker Comet!

Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance Review

Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, the series seventh entry and in addition the game that celebrates Kingdom Hearts 10th anniversary. That’s right the one thing we never knew would go together, has won our hearts over the last year, Disney + Final Fantasy. In this game we finally advance the plot from Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded and tie in the previous six games together thus pushing the story into its next stage. Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance (from now on referred to as KH3D) has to do with Sora and Riku obtaining the Mark of Mastery title for themselves, so they can become “true keyblade masters”. This title was first mentioned in Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, where only Aqua was bestowed the title over Terra. Yen Sid says this title is one of the keys to defeating Kingdom Hearts main antagonist, Master Xehanort.

Mario Kart 7 Review

That’s right, just what the title says, there has been seven Mario Karts! Not only is it rare for a spin-off series to become a main series like its own, but to be able to keep each game fresh, fun, and most importantly quality (sorry Mario Party) makes Mario Kart a series to be desired.

Mario Kart 7 continues its legacy on the 3DS bringing back old features and familiar faces, while at the same time adding new karts, new features, and even new characters. You start off with eight characters (ranging from the usual Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, Peach, etc.) and go on to unlock eight more characters after beating the 150cc cups. Mario Kart 7 continues the new tradition, from Mario Kart Wii, of placing eight cups; containing 16 all-new tracks (4 cups) and 16 redone tracks from the previous six Mario Kart titles (including Mario Kart Wii). Last but not least multiplayer is back, online and local, with a few extras thanks to the 3DS and StreetPass.

Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward Review

Choice. Games today throw that word around by saying your “choices” will effect how your story will unfold for every little thing you do.  But rarely does a choice really affect us. Rarely does a game really take into consideration the things you do, and how it effects its entirety  At times, you may end up asking yourself, “Can it really be that difficult of a choice?” Hmm. What if your decision was to decide whether someone lives…or dies. This is a simple premise that, in Virtue’s Last Reward, reminds the player of a singule truth:

Memento Mori – “Remember, you will die.”

Several times in fact. However that is the nature of your choices, the nature the Nonary Game, the nature of Virtue’s Last Reward.

In 2010, 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors was released in North America, courtesy of Aksys Games. It was a surprise success and sold through several print runs on the DS. Two years later, Virtues Last Reward (VLR) has finally reached shores worldwide riding in the wake behind the of its predecessor. Using a new twist on the Nonary game, does it stand up to the shadow of its former?

Yes – yes it does.  And it does so with brilliant direction and fantastic production. In fact, in virtually every facet it trumps its predecessor. To stress this point, lets first look at the most important aspect of any visual novel, the story.

999: 9 Doors, 9 Persons, 9 Hours Review (DS)

You have been Chosen…You are going to participate in a game

The lights were off. The doors were shut. I was sitting on my desk chair like a paper weight sits on a desk. I wasn’t moving anytime soon. It was around 4 A.M.  and I was in it for the long haul; I was going to finish the game. The Nonary Game.
