Defiance Review: Part 1, Part 2 & Part 3.

Defiance is the latest title developed by Trion Worlds and it brings with it one of the more interesting premises gaming has seen in the modern generation. Defiance is not only an online  third person shooter MMO, but also a brand new TV show that debuted on Syfy, April 17, 2013. The premise of both forms of Defiance revolves around a near distant future where a race of aliens called the Votan arrive on Earth; their home world has been destroyed and they are looking for a new home. The TV series and the game itself are meant to connect in ways never seen before. Read the rest of this entry

Toki Tori 2 Review

Sure, at first Toki Tori 2 may look like a no-brainer for Wii U owners, but don’t count your chickens before they hatch…

Toki Tori Wallpaper

Platform: Wii U/Windows

Developer: Two Tribes B.V. Publisher: Two Tribes B.V.

Genre: Puzzle/Platformer Platform Played: Wii U

It’s been a long time coming but Toki Tori 2 has finally winged its way to the Wii U eShop. A whimsical, minimalistic platformer, the game is replete with adorable creatures, mind-boggling puzzles and vibrant cartoon-like visuals that will have you beaming from ear to ear. With the current selection of Wii U titles being decidedly thin on the ground this charming avian adventure is a wonderful and refreshing addition to the new system’s lineup; providing hours of head-scratching fun that will undoubtedly have early console adopters running around, solving quirky conundrums like a flock of headless chickens.

Pandora’s Tower Review

Pandora’s Tower, the last of the Project Rainfall operation and probably the least recognizable of the three. Pandora’s Tower is another RPG game, which uses elements of action-RPG’s but is more level-based, especially compared to that of its two brethren, The Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles. In addition, combat takes a bit of twist in this game as your sword/weapon of choice is not the only way to defeat enemies, in fact your chain (called Oraclos Chain) is a integral part of not only fighting, but exploration as well.

Platform: Wii/ Genre: RPG

Developer: XSEED / Publisher: Nintendo

The story of Pandora’s Tower is a relatively simple one, as you take the role of Aeron, a former solider of Athos, who is trying to save his girlfriend Elena. Elena is cursed while she is performing at the Harvest Festival, somehow transforming into a hideous beast. Upon running away from the Elyrian Army, Aeron and Elena get some help escaping the city from a Vestra merchant named Mavda. Mavda brings them to an abandoned tower called the Observatory and explains what is happening to Elena. After the explanation of the curse, Mavda gives Aeron the Oraclos Chain and tells him he must venture to the 13 Towers above the Scar and bring back the Flesh of each of the Masters; that is the only way to rid of the curse. Along your journey of defeating the Thirteen Masters, you learn about The Scar, what the Masters and monsters in the Towers really are, and how war has ravaged the land for nearly five centuries, and why Mavda had decided to “help” you. In a non-spoiler type fashion, the game has multiple endings depending on how you treat Elena (more explained below), so the story and its meanings do alter depending on which ending you get.

‘Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3′ Review

Naruto Shippuden

Platform Reviewed On: Playstation 3

[Editor’s Note: To anyone who holds the slightest interest in the Naruto series whether it is reading the manga or watching the anime, I would not read this review for the sake of spoilers. The story of Naruto is one of the greatest tales ever created and it’s something I want as many people to experience as possible. For those who are curious, the game’s prologue starts out at Naruto manga chapters 500 and 501 and Naruto Shippuden episodes 247 and 248. However, the earliest point of Ultimate Ninja Storm 3’s story begins at Naruto manga chapters 450 and 451 and Naruto Shippuden episode 197.]

Guacamelee! Review

Guacamlee Logo

Platforms: PlayStation 3 / Vita        Genre: 2D Action-Platformer

Developer: Drinkbox Studios       Publisher: Drinkbox Studios

Platform Reviewed on: PlayStation 3

Guacamelee! is Drinkbox Studio’s latest endeavor and it clearly stands as the best game their studio has ever developed. Having played and thoroughly enjoyed their previous games, Guacamelee feels like a major step for the studio, offering so much more than I expected. This 2D Metroid-Vania platformer utilizes PlayStation’s cross-save and cross-buy functionality, which allows players to transfer their saves between PS3 and Vita since they receive both versions with one purchase.

Guacamelee never takes itself seriously, which is an admiring charm the game possesses. It allows itself to make some genuinely laugh-out-loud dialogue while producing a story as crazy as it is fun to experience. Read the rest of this entry

Paper Mario Sticker Star Review

The fourth entry to the Paper Mario series and the first for handhelds, Paper Mario makes another return in his newest adventure Paper Mario Sticker Star. Paper Mario games normally play as standard RPG’s with a twist, using your paper-overworld for over-the-top, wacky and fun gameplay. Sticker Star doesn’t take a step from any of its predecessors and roughly creates its own game, which unfortunately isn’t good news. Many fans of the Paper Mario series were not happy the direction Nintendo took with Super Paper Mario (Wii) as it was more of a Super Mario World game with RPG-elements; so Nintendo brought Paper Mario back to it’s turn-by-turn battle system, although keeping the idea of “level-worlds”.

Platform: 3DS/ Genre: RPG

Developer: Intelligent Systems/ Publisher: Nintendo

Paper Mario Sticker Star story is a simple one, in which Mario, Princess Peach, and the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom are celebrating a Sticker Star festival in which a Sticker Comet lands in the Mushroom Kingdom once every year. The Sticker Comet has the ability to grant any wish and unfortunately (and shocker), Bowser crashes the party and touches the sticker, thus granting his wish and exploding the Sticker Star into six pieces. Upon realization that the town is destroyed and Bowser is wrecking havoc to the land, you meet a Sticker Fairy named Kertsi, who forces you to help accompany her to restore the Comet. Now, doing your Mario-civic duty you must rescue Princess Peach, save the Mushroom Kingdom, and restore the Sticker Comet!

God of War Ascension Review

Developer: Sony Santa Monica       Publisher: Sony

Platform Reviewed on: PlayStation 3

God of War Ascension came as somewhat of a surprised when it was first announced. Like many other fellow video games, it was teased ahead of an official drawing of the curtain and many including myself thought that we may actually see the next numbered instalment, God of War IV. Instead, we were given Ascension which serves as yet another prequel to the series focusing on the aftermath of Kratos having broken his blood oath to Ares, the God of War.
