Ubisoft have always said that Assassins Creed 3 will conclude Desmonds story but they’ve been saying that they could make “thirty Assassins Creed games” since 2007. If they were to make new games, Ubisoft said they would most likely include the newest assassin Connor. However, they said that they would only include Connor depending on how people would react to the character.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Assassins Creed 3 associate producer Julien Laferrière said that “We made three games with Ezio because people loved Ezio,”. A very correct statement as Ezio Auditore, the protagonist from Assassins Creed 2, Brotherhood and Revelations has received a huge number of fans in the last three years since the release of AC2 in 2009. When asked if a new assassin in a new time period could get the same treatment, the associate producer responded “We’re going to see how players react to the guy [Connor] for sure. You’ll get to experience portions of his life, you’ll see why he becomes an assassin and what his motivations are.”.
With Ezio, his battle for two games focused around the infamous Borgia family that provided a very classic family vs family feud with the battle of the Templars and the Assassins as a background more so than the focus of the story. Sure, it was always present, but the characters motives were the primary story pieces.
Of course we now know that the two Ezio driven games, Brotherhood and Revelations also served as a cover for Ubisoft Montreal to work on Assassins Creed 3. However, the associate producer declined to elaborate on what this could mean for the franchise should Connor and his time period get the annualised treatment. “Assassin’s Creed 3 is the product of three years of development, but [because of that] we also now have a new engine, AnvilNext. It’s tough to answer that without compromising anything. I can’t really answer that question because there’s so many implications.”
Ubisoft Montreal assures fans that if Assassins Creed 3 was to expand into it’s own trilogy, the core focus of the games would be quality over quantity any day and that they “understand the worries of the fans”.
Would you like to see more Assassins Creed games based off of Assassins Creed 3? Bear in mind that this game is built on a brand new engine built from the ground up called AnvilNext so any more sequels would look better and run better than previous games. George will soon be attempting to climb the tree in his back garden just like Connor so if you don’t hear from him, he’ll probably be stuck up said tree and won’t be able to get down. However, you can follow him on Twitter and his blog on IGN if that happens.
