WHY YOU SHOULDN’T UNDERESTIMATE: GUACAMELEE

From the creators of Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack, one of the best games on Vita I might add. Comes Guacamelee, Drinkbox Studios is the developer behind these titles and they are a talented bunch I can assure you. The latest trailer showcases the vibrant charm Drinkbox Studios places into their titles, not to mention some extremely catchy Mexican inspired tunes.

Guacamelee is a side Metroid-vania style platformer and if you couldn’t tell by the name, it doesn’t take itself seriously. You are not going to be given an in-depth narrative, you are going to be presented with a fun, quirky, zany adventure that will keep you hooked with excellent gameplay. I have a lot of confidence in this title, since Mutant Blobs Attack was of such high standards.

You play as a down on his luck Mexican named Juan Aguacate, who sets out to save the world when El Presidente’s Daughter is kidnapped by Evil Charro Skeleton. Did I say quirky plot? Guacamelee differentiates itself from Mutant Blobs with its emphasis on brawling combat, encapsulating the style of Mexican wrestlers, Aguacate can pack quite the punch.

In an interview with VGBlogger last year, Co-Founder and Producer at Drinkbox Studios Graham Smith has this to say regarding cross-buy.”We don’t know for sure about cross-buy yet. We might want to offer a discounted purchase for people who just want a single version of the game.” Smith said, “We do expect that we’re going to support cross-control and cross-save, but probably not cross-play.”

During the game you will be able to switch between parallel worlds, which will showcase new paths, hide dangerous obstacles and if used correctly and be an extremely important method to keeping yourself alive. Learning new moves during the game will also open up new areas (Metroid-vania style) meaning that areas you couldn’t accessed previously, may now be accessible after acquiring new moves. Plus you can also turn into a chicken, why you ask? Self explanatory really, keep up.

If that doesn’t sound like this title is packing enough content, the game also allows 2 player co-operative multiplayer. Allowing you and a friend to explore the game world together, while kicking some serious butt.

Mutant Blobs Attack is one of the cheapest, yet best titles on PlayStation Vita and is an absolute delight. Thought we do not have a release date for Guacamelee, we do know it is coming to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita sometimes this year.
