Epic Games widely used Unreal Engine’s 4th iteration will not be supporting the Nintendo Wii U it was revealed.
With Epic having danced around the issue for a while, the question of whether the Wii U would be supported by Unreal Engine 4 was thrust straight at them during GDC this week to which Epic co-founder Mark Rein replied with laughter “No.”
Still laughing, Rein explains “I just laugh at the question…Unreal Engine 4, we’re not PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, or Wii U. It’s next-gen technology. That’s what we’re aiming for.”
Reiner did note that it’s possible for developers to port software running on Unreal Engine 4 to the Wii U. Nintendo’s latest console just simply will not be able to have Unreal Engine games specifically designed for the system. “The truth is, if a developer wanted to take an Unreal Engine game and put it on Wii U, they could,” adds Reiner.
Unreal Engine 4 will also not be supporting the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
