It seems like Metro: Last Light will feature a hardcore mode in which players lose their HUD, enemies are tougher, and the ammunition is more scarce. The catch is that this mode will only be available to those who pre-order the game, or pay $5 more. Who’s to blame for that? Well…
Huw Beynon, Koch Media global brand manager told PC Gamer the following:
“Game makers and publishers now live in a world where offering game content as a pre-order exclusive is a requirement by retail, and Ranger Mode seemed like the best choice since it was a mode for hardcore fans who would most likely pre-order the game, or purchase it at launch in any case. We rejected requests to make story content or additional missions exclusive. We also rejected requests to make this a timed exclusive.”
So in order to get a hold of the new mode, you’ll have to pay up $5/£3.99 more, which is “the lowest 1st parties would permit us to charge for content of this nature,” states Beynon while adding:
“We took all the steps we could to ensure that, while still offering retailers a pre-order incentive that met their needs, we did not force players to pre-order, or make them wait to get this content.”
Editor’s Thoughts: While some might think that the said content should have been included from the very beginning, it’s nice to see that there are still publishers who won’t include in these kind of deals whole story missions, or any other types of activities/maps etc. The company seems to have found a good balance between retail and gamers.
Metro: Last Light is scheduled for release on May 14th in North America and May 17th across Europe, for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
