New Avengers #7 Review

New Avengers #7

Written by: Jonathan Hickman
Art by: Mike Deodato

The fallout of what was the most defining moment of the series thus far. This was a more character driven story as things cool down and there is little urgency for them to fear losing Earth. Nothing big, but all the same the story was sound and engaging for one which is full of such conflict. It was an opportunity taken to dive into sub plots which kept the story from progressing any further, at least for the time being.

The conflict between T’Challa and Namor was inevitable, yet the way it was handled was even better. They are both kings and even so they have duties in which to protect one from the other. This tension had been boiling since Avengers vs. X-Men and Hickman did well to act upon it. Of course they didn’t fight and that’s nothing to be disappointed about because they handled it like people would in their position, diplomatically. I also would point out how interesting it was for T’Challa to go to Reed for advice on something like this. If anything it was refreshing to get another look into how Wakanda operates diplomatically. It’s just sad to see that war is still going to happen and not in favor of Wakanda.

Overall it was very intense given the situation that they find themselves in. As the Illuminati what they do stays between them as do anything that manages to go under the radar. Dangerous yes when they now have the attention of Doctor Doom, but time will tell if he will act upon his suspicions. As per usual the art is vibrant and something to admire. Not just the detail put into the characters but the environments around them as well. All in all, big things are to come and anticipate.

Score: 8.5/10
