YOUNG AVENGERS #6 REVIEW

Young Avengers #6

Written by: Kieron Gillen
Art by: Kate Brown

A new storyline starring two who aren’t Young Avengers? Odd change, but nonetheless a fun issue as both Speed and Prodigy find themselves forming a coincidental friendship. Gillen chose two which many fans of the previous Young Avengers book, and X-Men fans who have been wondering just what these two have been up to since we last saw them.

It’s funny the way Gillen has characterized them because they find themselves in similar positions. Working in some department that deals with the super. You almost feel sorry for Prodigy because he has so much potential yet finds himself doing a job that seems beneath his skillset. Same with Speedy who is doing a job that takes five minutes, a complete waste of his talents just to make a quick buck. Not their fault that though that the people they were closest to let them down, and that’s the connect Gillen drew between them. It’s a fun dynamic between the two because Speedy remains the same goofball as before while Prodigy is the stick in the mud taking the place of Wiccan for Speedy.

It seems like there will be some transition for them to overcome this slump they find themselves in and become heroes again. But until then it is a fun story in which you find both of their clashing personalities entertaining along with their humorous banter. It’s definitely more down to Earth than what we have read previously, but it’s refreshing to say the least and I can say I’m itching to find out what happens next.
