All New X-Men #14 Review

All New X-Men #14

Written by: Brian Michael Bendis
Art by: Stuart Immonen

Another action packed issue which did not disappoint as the Original X-Men show why they are basically the original. It was a well executed fight in which we have really gotten to see how their team dynamic has improved. I think that Bendis’s handle on the team is brilliant and that’s something to appreciate given it’s still a story centered around messing with time travel and paradoxes.

While some may not like young Jean Grey, you have to admit that her with the knowledge of her whole life is something of a spectacle as to how she handles situations. It’s one thing to know that she was the one projecting the Dark Phoenix herself, but the response to it was most interesting. It’s not just that she still has no control over her powers, the thought of how traumatizing the Dark Phoenix is must give her some idea of how she has affected others. If they were that afraid of her now, then they must have really feared her later on. This is that inner turmoil that makes this story great overall.

Of course I could say that Mystique and her questionable intentions are becoming a drag. I’d really like to know what is going through her head now because after this issue I don’t think I could find it in me to care about her involvement anymore.

This was a great issue and as usual there is more to expect from this book as the longer the Original X-Men remain in this timeline the more dangerous the risk being that this is a sensitive period for mutants all over. The coloring is what I love most at this moment and the bold colors is something you love to see stand out when big fights such as this break out. It just works great when it comes to mutants.

Score: 8.4/10
