New ‘Severed’ Trailer Showcases Enemies

Severed, the upcoming title from DrinkBox Studios, has unveiled a new trailer today which focuses on some of the enemies you can expect to encounter in the game. Clips of combat also highlight how intuitive the touch-centric controls are, particularly in action-packed moments. If you don’t blink, you’ll also be able to catch a glimpse of some RPG elements such as upgrades to your armour by crafting with materials left behind by defeated opponents.

For those unfamiliar with the basic premise behind Severed, the protagonist awakens to find out she’s missing an arm, and moves forward accompanied by a living sword. The bright vibrant colours found throughout the world act almost as a counterbalance for the dark and grisly tale unfolding as you progress through the game. Severed is scheduled for exclusive release on the Playstation Vita in Spring 2016.

Editor’s thoughts: Having played a demo of Severed at PAX East this year, I can say that there have never been such fluid and intuitive motion controls in combat before. In a gaming industry which has recently become fixated on motion controls and the like, Severed keeps things simple while requiring precision movements to be most effective. PS Vita owners definitely need to keep their eye on this title, particularly if they enjoyed Guacamelee.
