Rumour: Next Big ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Release Set in Egypt, Launching 2017

The next Assassin’s Creed release won’t arrive until 2017 and it will be set in Egypt, according to Kotaku.

Kotaku has reported on the potential Assassin’s Creed news, citing multiple sources “familiar with the goings-on at Ubisoft”, with multiple independent sources also confirming the information.

Kotaku suggests the next Assassin’s Creed release is codenamed ‘Empire’, and will take place in Egypt. Not only that, but unlike previous years no mainline Assassin’s Creed release will release during 2016; which is a big change for the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The decision to delay the next mainline release to 2017 was apparently decided after the disappointing release of Assassin’s Creed Unity in 2014.

Instead of the annual Assassin’s Creed release, Kokatu speculates Watch Dogs 2 will release in the usual Assassin’s Creed release window. The Watch Dogs sequel will also apparently take place in San Francisco, but there is no word if it will continue the story of Aiden Pearce from the original release.

Please keep in mind at this stage these are merely rumours, but it is certainly something interesting to consider. Until anything is confirmed, it is still best to take this information with a grain of salt. As of writing Ubisoft has already commented on the rumoured information, stating “We can’t comment on rumor or speculation.”

  1. I don’t know if I’m excited to hear it’s maybe going to take place in Egypt. I’ll wait till there’s is a official trailer or more information about it before I get my hopes up.
