David Gaider bids BioWare Goodbye

Dragon Age - Origins - Ultimate Edition #3

After 17 years and several incredibly successful projects, writer David Gaider announced on Twitter this morning that he would be leaving BioWare.

Over that 17 year period, Gaider has contributed to pivotal games such as Baldur’s Gate 2, Knights of the Old Republic, and of course, the Dragon Age series, for which he became the lead writer before handing the reins to Patrick Weekes earlier last year. Responsible for fan favorite characters like Alistair Theirin, Cassandra Pentaghast, and Dorian Pavus, Gaider’s mark on BioWare is not a small one.

An often controversial writer unafraid to speak his mind, Gaider was a supporter of diversity both in the gaming community and in the stories he wrote. He well known within the BioWare community, and actively participated in forum discussions and communicated with fans. Unfortunately, in this day and age, that means he was subject to some pretty intense criticism that was often rather vicious. Despite this, however, much of the fan base had positive things to say today, many wishing him well on his next endeavor. Whatever he works on next, his presence will certainly be missed by the BioWare community.
