‘Watch_Dogs 2’ Announced, Set In San Francisco

During a live stream, Ubisoft officially announced Watch_Dogs 2, featuring a new protagonist, a new location, and a greater emphasis on hacking.

“Our creative team is working hard to deliver an outstanding Watch_Dogs experience,” said Dominic Guay, Senior Producer, Ubisoft Montreal. “In Watch_Dogs 2, we’re excited to give players a captivating storyline with engaging characters that offers deeper, more meaningful hacking options, a greater variety of gadgets and weapons, and a brand new seamless multiplayer experience that will appeal to fans of the original Watch_Dogs as well as players new to the brand.”

Watch_Dogs 2 features a new protagonist, Marcus Holloway. Marcus is an African American hacktivist who has been accused of a crime he did not commit. It sounds very similar to the film Minority Report, with a press release from Ubisoft reading that Marcus has “fallen victim to ctOS 2.0’s predictive algorithms”. An emphasis of the character reveal was his ability to perform parkour and his new melee weapon which is a billiard ball on a string – it looks brutal. During the reveal the developers said Marcus was much more expressive than Watch_Dogs protagonist Aiden Pierce.

Watch_Dogs 2 takes place in a new location, San Francisco, and promises to place much more emphasis on the hacking abilities that differentiate the series from other open world games. As seen in the live stream reveal, players will be able to hack just about everything in Watch_Dogs 2. Every person and any connected device they possess can be hacked. Players will also be able to hack every piece of machinery in the game, this includes but is not limited to drones, cars, cranes, security robots and forklifts. Ubisoft says it will be possible to use stealth hacking to complete missions, or just go in guns blazing.

Watch_Dogs 2 will be available on November 15, 2016 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. A demo will be shown next week at E3.
