E3 2016: ‘Minecraft’ Friendly Update Introduces Crossplay

Until now, Minecraft has required individuals to be using the same platform to share the same space, but with the “Friendly Update,” that is about to change.

Minecraft Realms, the feature used to allow players from multiple devices to play alongside one another in the same world. While this update only seems to be applying to Windows 10, iOS, and Android devices, it has been stated that this is merely the first step the team is taking towards a fully integrated game. The update will also bring with it some texture packs, allowing players to customize the appearance of every block in the game. The Friendly Update will be coming to mobile devices and PC this fall, while the team is hoping to have it on consoles some time next year.

Add-ons were also announced which will allow creators to completely modify various aspects of the game, including the appearance and abilities of animals and creatures. the example shown on stage was a zombie which had been turned into an alien and given the ability to shoot fireballs.
