E3 2016: ‘Steep’ Announced

Steep, a game focusing on more extreme versions of skiing and snowboarding, closed out the Ubisoft E3 conference. With a heavy emphasis on multiplayer action, some may dismiss it as a clone of SSX, but at no point in that franchise were you able to don a wingsuit and navigate through tiny crevices or fly between mountaintops. One of the development teams explained that winning isn’t always the most important thing, and that sometimes it’s just about “doing awesome things with your friends.” From the two trailers we received, there doesn’t seem to be any shortage of extreme or awesome stunts to perform during your time with the title.

The gameplay trailer showcases “Mountain View” which helps you plan out your descent or spot some potential spots for tricks or stunts. Not unlike some of the social racing titles available at the moment, there are challenges scattered throughout the mountains, and if you follow another player through the challenge, it will initiate and suddenly the game has become competitive. Everything shown in the gameplay trailer also seems to suggest that the game will be constantly online since it relies so heavily on others being in your world to interact with, but nothing has been officially stated one way or the other on the matter.

Steep will be available this December, but those looking to try it out early can go online and register for a chance to be included in their beta.
