Astonishing X-Men #61 Review

Astonishing X-Men #61

The whole X-Termination crossover seemed as if they had been dragging on stories that should’ve ended a while ago, at first. Yet leading up to this very moment here that view has been changed. In this issue we see what happens when Jean absorbs the death seed. The emotion that came from this book came from Jean trying to control the massive amount of power she has acquired knowing full well she would lose herself to it. It could only be Jean that could control the power of Apocalypse, and even so it proved to be too much for her. It became a struggle to take on the many waves of  these creatures who prove to show no end, and it became clear that the only thing left for her to do was give in to the power and while she still could fight them to her last breath. This is the end result that Prophet foresaw, knowing that the only way to save everyone is to lose both Jean to the death seed and their world to those creatures. This was a great change in character for him as he came off very cold and calculating up to that point.

In this issue you felt the stakes raised higher than they ever could. They lost many friends, allies, and had to cope with it faster than they could in order to do what had to be done when it was all or nothing. Many of these heroes you would not have taken too seriously yet in this very situation they were able to step up and become someone admirable to an extent.
