Curious how well the Wii U sold in December?

Nintendo has released their sales number from December on their products for the credit-card-annihilating Christmas season in North America.

According to NPD, the Wii U sold 460,000 units in December, bringing the total amount of Wii U’s sold to 890,000 41 days after its release. Accompanying the Wii U’s sales are the 580,000 copies of New Super Mario Bros. U sold, which means around 65 percent of the people who purchased a Wii U’s bought New Super Mario Bros. U as well.

Wii U sales combined with other hardware sales in December Nintendo sold more than 2.65 million hardware units. The following are the other sales numbers for the month of December:

December 2012: Around 1.25 million units

Total to date: Over 7.7 million units

Nintendo Wii

December 2012: Around 425,000 units

Total to date: Over 40.8 million units

Nintendo DS

December 2012: Around 470,000

Total to date: Over 53 million units
