MYSTERIOUS TITLE ’1666′ HAS BEEN SUSPENDED

It seems the upcoming title 1666 is seeing an ill fate with its cancellation.

CEO of Ubisoft Yves Guillemot shared the news this past week during a post-earnings financial call alongside many disagreements with long-time Ubisoft developer Patrice Desilets, who has since been let go from Ubisoft.

Guillemot said, “After more than two months of discussions with [Desilets], we couldn’t align our vision both on project and team management. So consequently our collaboration has ended, and we have suspended 1666 for an undisclosed period of time.”

In 2010, Desilets left Ubisoft and went to work for THQ Montreal on a new IP, but Ubisoft has since then purchased the studio and its games due to THQ’s bankruptcy.

Although Ubisoft expected Desilets to stay on board with his game, both he and producer were let go last week. After claiming he was fired, Desilets said, “Ubisoft’s actions are baseless and without merit. I intend to fight Ubisoft vigorously for my rights, for my team and for my game.”

1666 was a cryptic title though. If anything can be indicated from the project’s title, it may have had to do with the Great Fire of London, which annihilated much of the city in September 1666.

1666 was first revealed via trademark application and was spotted later on in THQ bankruptcy documents. At an expected 4 million units in sales, this game was clearly going to be a big AAA title.
